Histology 1 Flashcards
Describe mucous neck cells. In the stomach.
Similar to surface cells, but provides a soluble mucus. Located in the neck of the stomach glands.
Describe chief cells.
Basophilic protein-secreting cells (have a rough ER in abundance. Found in the base of glands
What type of glandular cell secretes pepsinogen in the stomach?
Chief cells.
How is pepsin (secreted by chief cells) turned into pepsinogen in teh stomach?
By HCl present in the stomach
Describe parietal cells.
Large eosinophilic cells that secrete HCl. FOund in the middle 1/3 of glands
Describe s enteroendocrine cells.
Small cells resting on the basal lamina, that produce gastrointestinal hormones
What type of glandular cells in the stomach are characterized by zymogen granules?
chief cells
What part of the parietal cell communicates with the apical surface of stomach glands and produces/delivers HCl to the gland?
Intracellular canalicular system
What do parietal cells create/deliver?
HCl and Intrinsic Factor
What 3 major receptors control HCl secretion in parietal cells?
Gastrin receptors
Histamine (H2)
Ach (M3)
Where are enteroendocrine cells found within gastric glands?
At everly level of the gland
What types of cells are in fundic-type gastric glands/
Mucus Neck, Parietal, Chief, Enteroendocrine
What types of glands are in pyloric-type gastric glands?
Mainly mucous and a few enteroendocrine
no chief, no parietal
Describe fundic gastric glands?
Simple, branched, tubular
Describe Pyloric gastric glands.
Coiled branched, tubular
