Histology 🔬 Flashcards
1
Q
A
Hyaline cartilage (H & E)
- Irregular collagenous fibers of the outer fibrous layer of the perichondrium.
- The chondrocytes appear single or as cell nests in the lacunae.
- The matrix is homogenous basophilic.
2
Q
A
Yellow elastic fibro-cartilage (H & E)
- The skin is found on both sides.
- A plate of yellow elastic fibrocartilage is found between the two layers of skin.
- The matrix is rich in elastic fibers.
3
Q
A
Yellow elastic fibro-cartilage (Ver-Hoeff’s stain)
- The skin is found on both sides.
- The plate of elastic fibrocartilage shows black-stained matrix due to rich elastic fibers.
4
Q
A
White fibro-cartilage (H & E)
- No perichondrium.
- Rows of chondrocytes which are separated by acidophilic collagenous bundles.
5
Q
A
Decalcified compact bone (H & E)
- The most characteristic point is the presence of Haversian systems (osteons) with their concentric acidophilic bone lamellae.
- The osteocytes are regularly arranged between the lamellae.
6
Q
A
Spongy (cancellous) bone (H & E)
- No typical Haversian systems.
- The bone is arranged in the form of branching and anastmosing bars enclosing between them bone marrow spaces which are filled with red (active) bone marrow.
7
Q
A
Intra-cartilagenous ossification (H & E)
- Presence of different zones of ossification
- In zone of calcification; the osteoblasts deposit acidophilic bone matrix over the basophilic bars of calcified cartilage matrix
8
Q
what are the stages of intra-cartilaginous ossification?
A
- Stage of resting cartilage
- Stage of proliferation
- Stage of maturation and hypertrophy
- Stage of calcification
- Stage of Invasion
- Spongy bone formation
- Stage of remodeling and compact bone formation
9
Q
A
Skeletal muscle (L/S)
- Muscle fibers are large& cylindrical with multiple peripheral elongated & ovoid nuclei.
- Prominent transverse striations.
10
Q
A
Skeletal muscle (T/S)
- Formed of bundles of muscle fibers.
- The fibers are large, polyhedral, with peripheral nuclei and acidophilic myofibrils in the sarcoplasm.
11
Q
A
Skeletal muscle (Phosphotungstic acid)
- The skeletal muscle transverse striations are clearly seen.
12
Q
what are the characters of zone of calcification in Intra-cartilagenous ossification?
A
In zone of calcification; the osteoblasts deposit acidophilic bone matrix over the basophilic bars of calcified cartilage matrix
