Histogram Flashcards
What is a Histogram?
It is chart similar to a bar chart to represent numerical data
It is useful way to represent continuous data
What is continuous data?
It is data that is can occupy any value between a continuous range
What are some examples of continuous data?
Weight of students
40 kg to 50 kg
Height of students
155 cm to 160 cm
What does this mean?
any score that is more than 5 but less than or equal to 10
What does this mean?
any score that is more than 20 but less than or equal to 25
If the score is 14, where is the score placed?
If the score is 15, where is the score placed?
If the score is 10, where is the score placed?
How do create a histogram based on this data?
On the horizonatal axis, we record the score
On the vertical axis, we record the frequency
What is the difference between bar charts and histograms
There is no gap between the bars in histograms
How does the height in each bar represent?
It represents the frequency of the data
How many students were involved in the survey?
5 + 8 + 10 + 6 + 10 = 39
How many students scored more than 15 marks
6 + 10 = 16
we need to include the last two bars
How many students scored less than 15 marks
5+ 8 + 10 = 23
we need to include the first three bars
or
39 - 16 = 23
take the total and subtract those that scored more
What is the most frequent score?
Between 45 and 50
