Define privacy?
Privacy is the right of the patient to keep health information about themselves from being divulged to others.
Define confidentiality
The principal in which providers will hold secret all protected health information or PHI related to a patient unless he or she gives written consent
What does HIPAA stand for?

1996, and went into effect in 2002
How do hospitals and other health care facilities insure that confidentiality is maintained and information is secured?
They must appoint an HIPAA or privacy officer to oversee the issues concerning this mandate. Also it’s advised that they form a committee.
What is HIPAA title II and what does it focus on?
Administrative simplification which focuses on the security and privacy of protected health information and the national standards for its transfer

These are unique identification codes for all healthcare providers and health plans. The provider must use their 10 digit number in all HIPPA standard transactions.
