Hip Joint - Osseous Landmarks Flashcards
What’s the Acetabulum Notch
The rim of the acetabulum continuous with the acetabular fossa; it allows the passage of vessels and nerves to the hip joint
auricular surface of the ilium?
it is on the medial side of the ilium, cover with cartilage to articulate with the sacrum to form the sacroiliac joint
arcuate line of the ilium?
is the inferior boundary of the ilium, marks the transition between the abdominal cavity and the pelvic cavity. The line is the iliac portion of the line terminalis of the pelvis
pectineal line?
Also known as the pecten pubis, it lies on the superior pubis ramis, and Is the continuation of the arcuate line…
intertrochanteric crest
is a bony ridge on the posterior of the femur which connects the greater and lesser trochanter. The quadrate femoris attaches here.
quadrate tubercle
is an eminence on the intertrochanteric crest of the posterior femur in which the quadratus femoris attaches
Origin, Insertion, Action of the Sartorius muscle
most superficial of anterior thigh muscles
- ASIS
- Anterior/Medial surface of proximal tibia
- assist in flexing the thigh at the hip joint, and flexing the knee at the knee joint
- also abduct the thigh and rotate it laterally when resting the foot on the opposite knee
- femoral nerve
- forms the lateral portion of the femoral triangle
-
Tensor Fascia Latae
Origin, Insertion, Action, Nerve Supply
ASIS and the anterior part of the iliac crest
Inserts into the IT band
abduct, flex, internally rotate at the hip joint
Adductor muscles Origin, Insertion, Nerve Supply,
inferior pubis rami, ischialpubis rami, ischial tuberosity
Inserts into the medial lip of the linea aspera and the adductor tubercle of the femur
- adductor part - Obturator nerve L2-L4
- hamstring part - tibial nerve L4
Weakened adduction, which nerve could be injured?
Obturator nerve
Adductor part of the adductor muscle
Obturator externus muscle: Nerve root, origin, insertion
This muscle insert into the lateral wall of the trochanteric fossa
Originate from the external surface of the obturator membrane and bony structure
Posterior obturator nerve (L3-L4)
Obturator internus muscle:
Nerve root
Origin
Insertion
-Forms the antero-lateral wall of the true pelvis
-inner surface of the obturator membrane and surrounding bone
-inserts into the greater trochanter of the femur, medial side
nerve to obturator internus L5-S1
Superior gemellus
external surface of the ischial spine
- inserts medial side of the greater trochanter with the obturator internus
- nerve to obturator internus L5-S1
Inferior gemellus
- upper part of the ischial tuberosity
- insert with the superior gem & Ob. internus on the medial aspect of the greater trochanter of the femur
- nerve to quadrates femoris L5-S1
Semimembranosus
- superior & lateral aspect of the ischial tuberosity
- medial condyle of the tibia
- tibial nerve L5, S1, S2
