Hip Girdle and knee Flashcards
What type of joint is the tibiofemoral joint?
hinge
what bones comprise the knee?
femur, tibia, fibula, patella
What are the ligaments in the knee?
Cruciate (cross)-ACL, PCL (maintain a/p and rotary stability)
Collateral- MCL, LCL (maintain stability on sides of knee preventing abduction/adduction)
what forms the cushion between bones?
menisci-attached to tibia
describe ACL injury
-70% non-contact
-extended knee (>30 degrees flexion)
-marked valgus collapse of knee
-excessive femoral IR
-women 6x more likely to tear than males
Why do we tear our ACL?
ligament dominance, quadriceps weakness, loading asymmetries, core weakness
Explain the reahab of knee.
Acute-pain, swelling, ROM, quad activation, gait
Middle-strengthm neuromuscluar control, return to basic movements
Late- confidence in complex movements, resolution strength deficits
What type of joint is the patellofemoral joint?
gliding
(patella is sesamoid bone-patellar ligament used to increase angle of pull giving quadriceps greater mechanical advantage in knee extension)
What is femoral retroversion (out-toe) and anteversion (in-toe)?
orientation of head/neck of femur relative to sagittal plane. results in amount of hip internal rotation and external rotation allowed
What joint is the hip joint?
Ball and socket
What type of joint is the pubic symphysis
cartilaginous
What type of joints are the two sacroiliac (SI) joints?
gliding
