A
Inspect
Walk
Trendelenberg test
Lie patient flat
Palpate the greater trochanter and ASIS
Measure true and apparent leg lengths
Movements - Flexion, Internal/External rotation, Abduction/Adduction
Straight leg raise and Thomas test

How do you perform Thomas’ test? What is positive and what does a positive result reflect?
A
Place the hand in the small of the patient’s back while they are supine
Have them flex one hip as far as possible and observe for flexion of the contralateral hip which is a positive result
A positive result indicates the present of a fixed flexion deformity
