What do we look for
Ant -> Pelvic tilt, brusing, scaring
Lat -> Flexion abnormalities
Post -> Scarring / muscle wasting / Leg length discrepancy
Within Feel of hip exam, what are the 3 components
Temp + Hip joint palpation
Measure Apparent LL
Measure True Leg Length
What is the apparent LL
Umbilicus -> Medial Malleolus
What is the True Leg Length?
ASIS -> Medial malleolus
Do the Thomas test
Hand under the flat back + passive flex their leg and watch the other leg
What does a positive thomas test indicate?
Loss of hip joint extension
Do the Trendelenburg Test
Standing up tell them to use me as balance
Place fingers on both ASIS and tell them to stand on each leg alone
Positive trendelenburg Test
Pelvis drops on the side of the raised leg it suggests contralateral hip abductor weakness
