Hip and Knee Flashcards
hip flexion
P: Supine with knee extended and hip in neutral rotation. The knee should be allowed to flex as hip flexes
A: Greater trochanter
S: Lateral midline of pelvis/trunk
M: Lateral midline of femur in line with the lateral femoral epicondyle
hip extension
P: Prone with knees extended and hip in neutral rotation
A: Greater trochanter
S: Lateral midline of pelvis/trunk
M: Lateral midline of femur in line with the lateral femoral epicondyle
hip abduction and adduction
P: Supine
A: Anterior superior iliac spine (ASIS)
S: Imaginary horizontal line from ASIS to ASIS
M: Femur in line with midline of patella
hip internal rotation
P: Sitting with knees flexed at 90 degrees
A: Anterior patella
S: Perpendicular to floor
M: Anterior midline of tibia in line with midpoint between 2 malleoli
hip external rotation
P: Sitting with knees flexed at 90 degrees
A: Anterior patella
S: Perpendicular to floor
M: Anterior midline of tibia in line with midpoint between 2 malleoli
knee flexion
P: Supine with knee extended and hip in neutral. (Towel under the ankle to gain zero if needed)
A: Lateral epicondyle
S: Lateral midline of femur
M: Lateral midline of the fibula in line with lateral malleolus
knee extension
P: Supine with knee extended. Towel under the ankle to facilitate full extension
A: Lateral epicondyle
S: Lateral midline of femur
M: Lateral midline of the fibula in line with lateral malleolus
