Hip Flashcards
Act5ions of tensor fascia lata/IT band
Flexor and abductor
Action of gluteus medius
Abductor
If there is a hip flexion dysfunction, what is the problem?
There is ease of motion in flexion and restricted motion in extension
Tight quadriceps femoris lead to a decreased in hip extension.
Dysfunctions are named for where they live and are restricted to the opposite motion
Always check bilaterally
If there is an IT band restriction what position would the patient be in to check it and also what would present?
Supine or lateral rec.
lateral knee pain, restriction to hip Adduction
Flexion of hip
90* knee extended
120-135* knee flexed
Hip extension
15-30*
Internal rotation of hip
30-40*
External rotation of hip
40-60*
Abduction of hip
45-50*
Adduction of hip
20-30*
What nerve and muscle are being tested with flexion strength test?
Iliopsoas
Femoral N
L1-2
What is being tested in extension of hip strength test?
Gluteus max
Infer. gluteal n
L5, S1, S2
What is being tested in abduction of hip strength test?
Gluteus med
Superior gluteal n
L5, S1
What is being tested in adduction of hip strength test?
Adductor longus
Obturator n
L2-4
Describe strength grade scale
+0/5 - no muscular contraction
+1/5 - barely detectable flicker/trace of contraction
+2/5 - active movement with gravity eliminated
+3/5 - Active movement against gravity
+4/5 - Active movement against gravity and some resistance
+5/5 - active movement against gravity and resistance without signs of fatique
