A place in India. Hindu’s go here on pilgrimage and it is a sacred for Hinduism.
Puja
prayer/worship of the Gods; offerings. Offerings are given to the murti.
Arti
A form of Hindu worship/prayer in which burning lamps are waved before the statues of the gods to invoke their presence.
Bhakti
Devotion. In bhakti tradition, it is believe that love of God is the path to Moksha (spiritual liberation).

Nam Samskar
The fifth samskar when a child receives its name on about the eleventh day after birth. Also called the Namakarana.
Trimurti
The three major aspects of the Brahman, the supreme power; Brahma (the creator), Vishnu (the preserver) and Shiva (the destroyer).
Brahman
The supreme power in the universe; ultimate reality; God.
Avatar
The incarnations (divine becoming lives in human form). Most commonly used in Vishnu, the preserver God, acted through Krisha. (Avatar - Avatara)
Atman
The individual self or soul, which is believed to be non-physical and return to Brahman once moksha is achieved.
Murti
The images and representations of a deity in a temple or shrine in the home. They are statues if te deities in which Hindus will worship
Vaishnavism
The denomination that worships Vishnu (Vaishnavas)
Shaivism
The denomination that worships Shiva (Shaivis)
