Hill Reaction Flashcards
What are the two major steps of photosynthesis?
Light and dark reactions
What occurs in the light reactions of photosynthesis?
Light driven transports of electrons donated from H2O at photosystem II via plastoquinone and photosystem I to terminal electron acceptor NADP+ to form NADPH.
Phosphorylation of ADP to ATP.
What happens in the dark reactions of photosynthesis?
ATP and NADPH reduce CO2.
What was the role of DCIP in this lab?
Acted as artificial electron acceptor at photosystem II.
What happens when DCIP is reduced?
It turns into colourless DCIPH2.
How is the rate of photosynthesis determined in lab 3?
Degree of reduction of DCIP monitored by measuring the change in absorbance at 620 nm.
What is DCMU? What does it do to plants?
An herbicide. Inhibits electron flow at psii by blocking electron acceptor plastoquinone.
