High-Voltage Pulse current Flashcards
1
Q
Types
A
Twin-peak
Monophasic
Pulse current
2
Q
Clinical Applications
A
- Muscle contraction
- Pain modulation
- Tissue healing
- Edema control
3
Q
Tissue Healing (Becker Theorized)
A
- Endogenous current present in human tissues after trauma and diseases
- Endogenous current may be important in soft tissue repair
4
Q
When endogenous bioelectric system fails
A
- exogenous electrical current is delivered to the wound, enhancing wound healing
5
Q
Dosage for Wound Management
A
- Voltage: 150 - 250 V
- Pulse frequency: Arbitrary, between 0.1 and 200 pps
- Mode: pulse or continuous
- Electrode polarity: Reversal of polarity
- Treatment duration: often 60 minutes
- Treatment frequency: daily or 5-7 times / week
6
Q
Electrode Placement
A
- Both electrodes are positioned over healthy tissues adjacent to the wound margins
7
Q
Considerations for Application
A
- Aseptic technique to prevent cross-contamination between patients
- Topical wound care products composed of hypertonic salt solutions or metal ions should be avoided for several days prior to applying HVPC
