High Systolic Blood pressure: Lecture 2 Flashcards
1
Q
What is an aneurysm?
A
a rupture in the wall of the aorta
2
Q
What causes aneurysm?
A
when the aorta is stretched out (permanent stretch)
3
Q
How does the permanent stretch occur?
A
- with high blood pressure
- hypertension
4
Q
What is Marfan Syndrom? aka spiderman syndrome
A
this is when there is a mutation in the ECF matrix protein called fibrillin-1
5
Q
Marfan syndrome is more common who?
A
6
Q
What is Myocardial Infarction?
A
workload of the heart is too high but is not met with oxygen demand
7
Q
What do people with Marfan syndrome look like?
A
- tall
- long fingers
- arm span exceeds their height
- stretchy skin, with poor recoil
- sometimes bone density issues
8
Q
When MAP increases what will be the key thing that will decrease? and Why?
A
Stroke volume decreases immediately, as end-diastolic volume increases but
9
Q
What are the 2 consequences of high systolic blood pressure?
A
- Aneurysm
- Myocardial infarction - heart attack
