  • advanced maternal age >35
  • drug use; smoking, drinking, illicit substance use
  • maternal health conditions: diabetes, HTN, thyroid disease, epilepsy, poorly controlled asthma , certain mental health conditions, BMI >30
  • previous pregnancy complications; premature birth, pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes
