HF Pharmacology Flashcards
Hydralazine
Acts on vascular smooth muscle to cause dilation of arterioles
Decrease afterload and peripheral resistance
Indication of Hydralazine
HTN, HF
Adverse effect of Hydralazine
Reflex tachycardia (Drug taken with beta blocker to prevent this)
Hypotension
Losartan
Angiotensin II receptor blocker
Blocks action of angio 2 which results in vasodilation
decrease bld volume
decrease cardiac remodeling
Indication of Losartan
HTN, HF, MI
Adverse effect Losartan
Angioedema
increase K
Furosemide
Loop diuretics
Acts on loop of henle to block reabsorption of Na and Cl, preventing passive reabsorption of water
Furosemide Route
Iv/PO/IM, onset of IV starts in 5 minutes and lasts 2 hrs
Furosemide indication
PE, hepatic edema, cardiac, HTN
Furosemide adverse effect
Hyponatremia
Hypochloremia
Dehydration
Dry mouth, thirst, oliguria, excessive weight loss, hypotension, hypolalemia, ototoxicity
Hydrochlorothiazide
Block reabsorption of Na and Cl in distal convoluted tubule, causing water to be retained
Hydrochlorothiazide Indication
HTN, Edema, mild-moderate HF
Hydrochlorothiazide Adverse effect
Hyponatremia, hypochloremia, dehydration, dry mouth, thirst, oliguria, excessive weight loss, decrease in potassium
Spironolactone
Potassium Sparing Diuretics
Blocks action of aldosterone in distal nephron
Spironolactone indication
HTN, Edema, HF
