HF Flashcards
2 types of HF
Left sided - shortness of breath, cough, pulmonary reactions
Right sided - peripheral edema, systemic congestions/edema, vein distention
HF med groups
Cardiac glycosides
Phosphodiasterase inhibitor
Adrenergic agonist
ARNI(angiotensin receptor neprilysin inhibitor)
Cardiotonic drug groups
cardiac glycosides
adrenergic agonists
angiotensin II neprilysin inhibitor(ARNI)
Cardiac glycoside drug
Digoxin
How does Digoxin work?
increases force of myocardial contraction
Digoxin special stuff
SE: toxicity - white/yellow/green halos in vision, hypokalemia, anorexia
Must get an apical pulse of 60
Reversal drug: immune fab
Take with water
What is the safe digoxin level
0.5 - 0.8ng/mL
Phosphodiasterase inhibitor
Milrinone
How does milrinone work?
increases calcium levels for heart function
Milrinone special stuff
Short term med
SE: pericarditis, pleuritis(heart/lung inflamation)
No furosemide
Adrenergic agonists
Cat: epinephrine, dobutamine, dopamine, isoproteronol, norepi
Noncat: albuterol, ephedrine
increase BP, emergency drugs
Adrenergic agonists special stuff
give phentolamine for dopamine extravasation
Angiotensin II receptor neprilysin inhibitor(ARNI)
Sucubatril/Valsartan
How do ARNI drugs work
Like putting an ACE and ARB together
Special stuff Sucubatril/Valsartan
NO MIXING
