what is the pathophysiology of herpetic encepahlitis ?
through primary infection of HSV1 and HSV2 by mucosal or dermal penetration
reactivation of viral dna in trigeminal ganglion and axonal spreading to the frontal and temporal lobe
what are the symptoms for herpetic encephalitis ?
fever and headache
change in personality
seizure due to raised intrcranila pressure
how do we diagnose herpetic meningitis ?
MRI - for specific lesions
frontotemporal hyperintensive lesion
enedematous parenchyma
what is the therapy for herpetic encephalitis ?
antiviral therapy immediatly
intracranila pressure therapy - mannitol and glucocorticoids
