Hepato/Biliary Flashcards
What two types of liver masses appear on CT scan with hyper vascularity?
How do you tell them apart?
FNH appears as a hypervascular mass containing arteriovenous connections. They are poorly encapsulated with a central stellate scar that contains the bv.
Hepatic hemangiomas: on histology are dilated cystic spaces filled with red blood cells
What is the appropriate management of a stable patient with a blunt traumatic mechanism of injury with (+) fluid on a FAST exam?
stable patients with a blunt traumatic mechanism of injury to the abdomen have time for more imaging.
Do a CT scan so you can figure out where the injury is before you go cutting into them.
**Unstable patients, however, should undergo an ex-lap. unstable patients who fail to respond to fluids should be considered to have a life-threatening solid organ injury until proven otherwise.
