What is acute hepatitis?
A
- Inflammation of liver: duration <6 months
- Caused by alcohol/hepatotropic viral
- Symptoms very variable: mild to fatal

What is viral hepatitis caused by?
A
Most common causes are hep A, B, C, D, E & G and EBV, symptoms very variable

What are the other causes of acute hepatitis?
A
- Alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency
- Drug: Paracetamol, isoniazid, allopurinol, halothane, sulphonamides and methyl dopa
- Wilson’s disease
- Reyes syndrome in children
- Lymphoma
- Budd- Chiari syndrome
