The Battle of Flodden (1513)

A
  • when henry was away campaigning in france king james IV of scotland sent a small scottish army over the border to england
  • The earl of surrey crushed the scottish forces
  • meant that many of the french nobility and James IV himself were now dead on the battle field
  • therefore james IV’s cousin Margaret ruled on the throne as a regent which was good for England and Henry VIII as this meant that there was a much more limited threat of invasion - England was more secure from Scottish Threat
