What was Henry VII’s claim to the throne?
Direct descendent of Edward III through his third son, John of Gaunt
Marriage to Elizabeth of York

-Consolidated the beginning of Tudor Dynasty
-Relieved some Yorkist tensions as a Yorkist was now the Queen consort
-Created era of peace after the Wars of the Roses, allowing Henry to magnify parliamentary focus on other issues such as trade and finance.
Coronation
30th October 1485
Prior to first parliamentary hearing on 7th November, therefore he could sit in Parliament as a crowned king.
Bosworth
Dated his own reign to the 21st August 1485, one day prior to the Battle of Bosworth on the 22nd August, so that he could present his reign as factual and righteous and Richard III as an usurper
Heir
Birth of his son Arthur in 1486 provided an heir presumptive for his reign, consolidating the Tudor dynasty - his death in 1502 disrupted this
