Had experienced political instability
between 1455 and 1485 England had suffered from 30 years of intermittent Civil War and five violent changes of monarch

what were the aims of Henry
A
- Due to his weak claim his reign was characterised by insecurity and by fears of a potential Yorkist challenge
- From 1485 his main aim was to consolidate his power in order to keep his drone and establish his dynasty
- He also had to reduce the power of the nobles who had use the previous period of instability to enhance their own authority
- had to improve the crowns Financial position and secure the recognition of foreign powers
