The rebellion originated in May 1950 in Kent. It mainly consisted of villagers, tradesmen and members of the Church who were led by Jack Cade.

What was significant about Jack Cade?
A
Jack Cade was known to some as John Mortimer. The name Mortimer was that of Richard D.O.Y’s mother’s maiden name tying Richard to the rebellion and leading to speculation that he played some role in its orchestration.
