What was the Court of Augmentation?
Established to deal with the wealth of the Church after the Dissolution.
What was the Council of the North?
Created by Cromwell to placate the North after the Pilgrimage of Grace
What was the Privy Council?
Chosen advisers, selected by the King, to help with his decision making.
What was the Court of Wards?
Established to deal with wardships of wealthy children after their parents had died.
How successfully did Cromwell deal with Wales?
Forced to accept the English law and language but the terrain made it difficult to enforce.
How successful did Cromwell deal with Ireland?
England only controlled the Pale (around Dublin). Anglo-Irish Lords were in charge, but could not always be trusted.
What was a sanctuary?
Avoiding arrest by hiding inside a church. This was largely abolished by Cromwell.
What were liberties?
Local lords could control the law in their lands. This was completely abolished.
How powerful was Henry’s Parliament?
It was largely under the control of Cromwell and passed the laws he wanted regarding religion and the succession.
When did Henry marry Anne of Cleves?
January 1540. The marriage was not successful as Henry did not like her.
