Q
Precautions in hemoglobin measurement
A
- Salts and solution of cyanide are poisonous. Care should be taken while handling such salts and solution.
- Drabkin’s solution is sensitive to light and should be stored in a brown bottle and in the dark.
- Drabkin’s solution contains cyanide. When filling pipettes, a suction bulb should be used.
- Drabkin’s solution should not be used after precipitate has formed in the bottom of the storage bottle.
1
Q
Other term for Drabkin’s reagent
A
Potassium ferricyanide-cyanide solution
2
Q
It is measured photometrically.
A
Intensity of cyanmethemoglobin
3
Q
Other term for hemoglobin measurement
A
Cyanmethemoglobin method
4
Q
Formula for hemoglobin concentration
A
Hb (g/dL) = 36.8 x Abs
5
Q
Action of Drabkin’s solution
A
Oxidizes hemoglobin to methemoglobin which is in turn converted to cyanmethemoglobin
