Q

SPERRY SPLIT BRAIN RESEARCH

A

AIM: to assess the abilities of separated brain hemispheres (corpus collosum was severed)

•things presented in the left visual field (to the right hemisphere) could not be spoken about

• things presented in the right visual field (to the left hemisphere) could be spoken about as the language centres are lateralised to the left hemisphere

•objects placed in the left hand and processed in the right hemisphere couldn’t be spoken about but the participant could find a similar object

•objects placed in the right hand and processed in the left hemisphere could be spoken about and could also find a similar object

•the left hand would consistently draw clearer and better pictures which shows the superiority of the right hemisphere when it comes to visual motor tasks

Q

Problems of causation

A

all patients had epilepsy and there was no control group so it cannot be certain that non-epileptic people have the same level of lateralisation in their brains
