What is a knee hemi-arthoplasty?
A
Replace only one side of the tibio-femoral joint (either the medial or lateral side)

Which group of patients tend to get hemi-arthoplasty’?
A
Younger patients who have painful, deformed joint that is not severe enough to warrant total joint replacement but with too advanced a disease process to permit osteotomy

What is the principle aim of hemi-arthoplasty?
A
Restore joint alignment to normal so balance the forces on the medial and lateral sides of the joint

Why are small pegs or lugs used in hemi-arthroplasty?
A
To limit the loss of bone stock in case of the need to perform a revision operation
