Q
Hematopoietic stem cell
A
cell that can renew itself and differentiate into a variety of cells
- harvested from bone marrow
- peripheral blood
- umbilical cord blood
2
Q
Hematopoietic cell transplant
A
series of procedures:
- treated with chemo/radiation
- Myeloablative (destroy all)
- nonmyeloablative (destroy some)
- infusion of hematopoietic progenitor stem cells
Indications for: AML ALL CLL CML MM lymphomas Sickle cell aplastic anemia B-thalassemia

Q
Types of HCT donors
A
autologous - self syngeneic - identical twin - low GVHD risk allogenic - someone other than person with disorder - high GVHD risk and infection risk
