Erythrocytosis / Transient Leukemia (DX)
A
- characterized by too many RBCs and elevated WBCs
- 1/150 kids with Down Syndrome will experience it

Hemophilia (DX)
A
- blood disorder commonly affecting males
- 60% of cases are hereditary
- characterized by the absence or reduction of blood clotting proteins
- results in longer bleeding time
- 3 types: mild (bleeding episode usually seen after a traumatic injury - usually not detected otherwise); moderate (bleeding episodes after minor injuries); severe (bleeding episodes after injuries or without an apparent cause, may also affect muscles and joints)
- signs and symptoms: excessive bleeding, excessive bruising, spontaneous bleeding or bleeding without a known cause, nosebleeds

Anemia (DX)
A
- caused by iron deficiency in the blood
- often treated through diet
- may be symptomatic of other conditions, such as lead poisoning, vitamin deficiencies, leukemia, and sickle cell disease

Sickle Cell Anemia (DX)
A
- form of anemia caused by abnormally shaped RBCs
- most common among African Americans
- kids may have decreased energy
- kids are at risk for organ damage due to blocked blood flow
- kids may experience pain

A
- teaching energy conservation strategies (kids may have decreased energy for daily tasks)
- pain management (kids may experience pain with condition)
