Explore problem by asking about the problem, environment, factors that may be influencing Establish rapport, enhance motivation Formulate assessment Mutually create goals Make referrals
always address limits of confidentiality
Determine clients expectation

Phase 1: 2 Engagement
rapport = forming trust, therapeutic alliance
reduces level of threat
be aware of relevant cultural and racial factors
expectations
Phase 1: 3 Assessment
Exploration of problem, psychococial assessment
Identify presenting problem, systems that play a significant role in problem, and relevant resources
Focus on Safety, Medical, Laws, Ethics, and self -determination
Make referrals
Reach agreement of presenting problem,
Negotiate goals,
Treatment goals are realistic, specific, and measurable
Formulate a contract
Know stages of change:
Pre-contemplation, contemplation, preparation, action, maintenance, relapse.
Phase 2: Implementation/ Goals attainment
heart of the problem solving process; action oriented, assessing goals in priority, SW select and implement interventions design to assist,
Interventions be directly related to problem
Monitor progress
Evaluate effectiveness
Recognize barriers
Phase 3: Termination
Assess that goals have been met
goals to maintain and grow
Address issues around termination
plan follow up sessions, but not to be therapy
discuss termination at the beginning of therapy/ that it is an expectation.
