This is about the shape of the the land eg steep slopes, gentle slopes, cliffs.

A
The exact height above the ground is measured and written onto a map.

What is layer colouring used for?
A
Areas of different heights are shown using different colours. Brown suggests high land and green lowland.

A
Brown lines drawn on a map which join up points that are the same height.
