Heating and cooling liquids Flashcards
- I will find out what happens when liquids are affected by changes in temperature, and why.
What happens when a liquid is heated?
The liquids expands.
Why do liquids expand when heated?
The particles start to vibrate with the heat energy, bump into each other causing them to move further apart, thus the liquid expands.
When does a liquid change to a solid?
A liquid turns into a solid when it reaches it’s freezing point.
How does a liquid change to a solid?
The particles in the liquid slow down and is soon arranged into structured patterns.
What do we call a liquid changing into a gas? (2)
Boiling or evaporating
Where does evaporation happen?
Evaporation happens at the surface of a liquid.
Evaporation can happen at ______ temperatures.
Lower.
When does a liquid boil?
A liquid boils at it’s boiling point.
