Water

A

Provide enough fresh cool water for each employee; 4 8oz glasses (1 quart)/hr.
Encourage them drink water throughout the day.
Plan in place for refilling throughout the day.
Locate water as close as possible.

Shade

A

Provide access to shade, encourage employees to take a break in the shade for at least 5 minutes.
Must provide shade structures when Temps exceed 80 degs or upon request.
They shouldn’t wait until they feel sick to cool down.

Monitor

A

Closely monitor employees during heatwave or newly assigned to high heat area.
Plan in place for workers to adjust to the heat. i.e.
For new employee to adjust to high heat area, provide lighter work, frequent breaks, or shorter hours.
Monitor each other, minimum a buddy system.
