Heart test Flashcards
Aorta
The main blood vessel that delivers blood to the rest of the body; largest artery
Aortic semi-lunar valve
Controls blood flow from the left ventricle of the heart to the aorta
Atrioventricular Node (AV Node)
Gets impulse from pasemaker; carries it on
Atrium (lft & rt)
Upper chamber of heart
Bicuspid (Mitral) valve
A heart valve that controls blood flow from the left atrium to the left ventricle
Bundle of His
A branch of fibers that extends from your AV node; carries electrical impulse
Coronary arteries
They supply blood to the heart; they run along the heart
Inferior vena cava
Largest vein; brings blood to lower body
Pericardium
A fluid-filled sac that surrounds and protects your heart
Superior vena cava
Large vein that bring DOB from head and neck to heart
Pulmonary artery
blood vessels that carry oxygen-poor blood from the right side of your heart to your lungs
Pulmonary semi-lunar valve
a valve of the heart that lies between the right ventricle and the pulmonary artery
Pulmonary vein
Brings OB from the lungs to the heart
Septum
The big muscular wall that separates the left and right side of the heart
Sinoatrial Node (SA Node; Pacemaker)
Sends the electrical signal that tells the heart to beat
Tricuspid valve
Prevents DOB from going back into the right atrium
Sphygmomonometer
Instrument for measuring blood pressure
Ventricle (lft & rt)
Lower part of heart; helps pump blood
Stethoscope
A device doctors use to listen to sounds inside your body (ex: heart)
Systole
The heart contracts and pumps blood out
Diastole
The heart relaxes and fills with blood
Pulse
Rhythmic throbbing of the arteries in response to the cardiac cycle
Angina
Chest pain due to reduced blood flow to heart
Arrhythmia
Any problem in the rate or rhythm of a persons heartrate.
