Heart Structure Flashcards
Aorta Branches off for 3 ateries
Brachiocephalic trunk
left common carotid artery
left subclavian artery
Coronary circulation has different arteries
Right coronary artery
Left coronary artery
- branches to circumflex artery and anterior interventricular artery
RA has 3 sources of bloode
Superior VC Inferior VC and Coronary Sinus
4 boarders of heart
Superior - Great vessels
Right - RA
Left - LV
Inferior - mostly RV some LV
Auscultation
listening to heart sounds with stethoscope
Location of heart
Within pericardial sac, in the middle of the mediastinum
Mediastinum compartments
Anterior - minimal content
Medial - largest and most important
posterior - some large vessels running behind heart
Pericardial sac - 2 layers
Visceral layer - closely applied to heart (epicardium)
Parietal layer - outer fibrous and inner serous component. Attached to lungs
Pericardial attachments
Inferior - heart to diaphragm
Superior - Attached to great vessels
Lateral - Lungs
Pericardial layers
Parietal pericardium - fibrous & serrous
Pericardial Cavity
Visceral pericardium
Cavities similar to pericardial cavity
Pleural Cavity (lungs) Abdominal Cavities
Cardiac Tamponade
Too much fluid in pericardium
Hard to contract
Fossa ovalis
membranous wall
was previously foramen ovalis in embryo
RA structure
Thin walls Anterior side - Pectinate muscles Posterior side - smooth Anterior and posterior divided by Christae Terminalis Tricuspid valve
Ductus arteriosus
small branch from pulmonary trunk to aorta
