heart structure Flashcards
structure of heart on paper fc
what is the cardiac muscle properties?
myogenic( can contract and relax without nerve or hormonal stimulation )
wont fatigue as long as it has oxygen and glucose
what are coronary arteries?
blood vessels surrronding heart
what do coronary arteries do ?
supply cardiac muscles with oxygen and blood
where do coronary arteries branch off from ?
aorta
describe artria function ?
thinner muscular walls
dont need to contract as had as pumping blood t ventricles
elastic walls to stretch as blood enters
describe ventricle strucutre ?
thicker walls to enable bigger contractions
creates higher blood pressure to enable blood flow long distances (to lungs and body )
where are semi lunar valves ?
aorta and pulmonary artery
where are atria ventricular valves? what are the names for the left and right
between atria and ventricles
bicupid (left)
tricupsid (right)
where and what is septum
piece of cardiac muscle between left and right, preventing oxygenated and oxygenated blood from mixing
what are atria
top chambers that collect blood from blood vessels
what are ventricles
bottom chambers in the heart that pump blood into the blood vessels.
why does the heart have 2 separate pumping mechanisms ?
Blood pressure drops in the lungs as it flows through the capillaries.
A single pump would slow the blood flow to the body cells.
Two pumps increase the pressure before the blood circulates
where are the semi lunar valves located
between the ventricles and the pulmonary artery and the aorta.
