Sweat
What climatic factors affect the Heart directly ?
Fire and Heat are the ones that most affect the Heart. Generally speaking, exterior factors do not affect the Heart directly.
What emotion is Heart related to ?
Joy
“Joy” does what to Heart Qi?
Slows down Heart-Qi
Name some clinical manifestations of Heart-Qi Deficiency ?
Fatigue, Palpitations, SOB on exertion, pale face, slight depression, Shen is slightly subdued/ungrounded, anxiety
What is the tongue presentation for HT-Qi deficiency?
Pale, thin white fur or normal color
What is the pulse for HT-Qi deficiency?
Empty
Name the pathological precursors of HT-Qi deficiency.
HT-Qi deficiency may derive from KD-Qi deficiency OR
may also result from GB-Qi deficiency
Name the pathological developments from HT-Qi deficiency.
HT-Qi deficiency frequently leads to HT-Yang deficiency.
It may also affect the Lungs and become associated with LU-Qi deficiency
(this happens especially when there is emotional stress).
What is the treatment principal of HT-Qi deficiency?
Tony the HT-Qi
What are the clinical manifestations of HT-Yang deficiency?
Feeling of cold, spontaneous sweating, cold hands, bright-pale face, slightly dark lips, chest discomfort relieved by heat.
Other symptoms are similar to HT-Qi deficiency; Fatigue, palpitations, SOB on exertion, feeling of discomfort of stuffiness in the HT region.
What is the tongue presentation for HT-Yang deficiency?
Pale, slightly wet
What is the pulse for HT-Yang deficiency?
Deep-weak, in severe cases Knotted.
What are the pathological precursors of HT-Yang deficiency?
- May develop from HT-Qi deficiency.
- May derive indirectly from chronic KD-Yang deficiency
(KD yang is the source if all Yang energies the body). - May also derive from Yang deficiency of ST and SP
(The ST and SP also influence the HT directly).
What are the pathological developments from HT-Yang deficiency?
Heart Blood Stasis
(Deficient HT-Yang fails to move Qi in the chest; this may lead first to HT-Qi stagnation and then to HT-Blood stasis. This pattern is clinically important because it is involved in Western medical diseases such as angina pectoris & coronary heart disease)
What are the clinical manifestations of HT-Yang Collapsing?
Weak and shallow breathing, cyanosis of the lips, greyish-white complexion, in severe cases coma, palpitations, SOB
What is the tongue presentation of HT-Yang Collapsing?
Very pale or Bluish-Purple, Short
What is the treatment principal for HT-Yang deficiency?
Tonify and warm HT-Yang
What is the pulse for HT-Yang Collapsing?
Hidden-Minute-Knotted
What are the pathological precursors of HT-Yang Collapsing?
Chronic and severe KD-Yang deficiency OR
Yang deficiency of ST and SP
What are the pathological developments from HT-Yang Collapsing?
HT-Blood Stasis
(HT-Yang Collapsing is a very severe, serious, acute condition corresponding broadly to cardiac infarction in Western medicine. When it does not cause death, it causes severe Blood Stasis)
What is the treatment principal for HT-Yang Collapsing?
Rescue Yang, Restore consciousness, stop sweating
What are the clinical manifestations of HT-Blood deficiency?
Dream disturbed sleep, insomnia, dizziness, poor memory, propensity to be startled, dull-pale complexion, pale lips, palpitations, anxiety
What is the tongue presentation of HT-Blood deficiency?
Pale, Thin, sl. dry
What is the pulse of HT-Blood deficiency?
Choppy or Fine
What are the pathological precursors of HT-Blood deficiency?
LV Blood deficiency
(when blood is deficient, this usually starts with LV-blood deficiency: as the HT governs blood, HT-blood becomes deficient too. Also, LV is the Mother of the HT, a LV pathology is easily transferred to the HT)
What are the pathological developments from HT-Blood deficiency?
HT-Yin deficiency (as Blood is part of Yin) OR
SP-Blood deficiency (on a physical level, the SP affects the HT - Food-Qi produced by the SP is the origin of Blood. HT is also the Mother of SP)
What is the treatment principal for HT-Blood deficiency?
Nourish Blood, tonify the HT, calm the Mind
What are the clinical manifestations of HT-Yin deficiency?
Night sweating, dream-disturbed sleep, palpitations, insomnia, propensity to be startled, poor memory, anxiety, mental restlessness, uneasiness, fidgetiness, dry mouth and throat
What is the tongue presentation of HT-Yin deficiency?
No coating, deep midline crack reaching the tip
What are the pathological precursors of HT-Yin deficiency?
KD-Yin deficiency OR LV-Yin deficiency
What are the pathological developments from HT-Yin deficiency?
Doesn’t normally lead to other patterns, other than Empty-Heat
What is the treatment principal for HT-Yin deficiency?
Nourish HT-Yin, calm the Mind. If Empty-Heat is present, Clear heat.
