Heart location and surface structures Flashcards
What are the boundaries of the heart?
diaphragmatic surface (inferior)
sternocostal (anterior)
left and right pulmonary surfaces (laterally)
What is the superior and edge limit of the pericardial cavity?
superior -2nd intercostal space
on both left and right sides
edge - sternum
What is located in the superior limit of the pericardium?
SVC
ascending aorta
pulmonary trunks
What is the superior limit of the heart?
3rd intercostal space
difference in limit of heart and pericardial sac is because of the vessels
What are the left lateral limit of the pericardial sac and the heart?
lateral sternum to mid clavicular line at the 5th intercostal space
What does the left surface compose of ?
it is convex and contains the left ventricle and small portion of left atrium
What is the right lateral limit of the heart and pericardial sac?
1 cm right of the sternum
What does the right surface compose of?
it is convex and contains most of the right atrium
What is the inferior limit of the heart and pericardium?
level of the xiphisternal junction
What does the inferior surface contain?
rest on diaphragm and is composed of left ventricle and small portion of right ventricle
What does the anterior surface of the heart contain?
mostly right ventricle and some left ventricle
