Heart Failure Flashcards
What 3 neurohormonal systems are activated in HF?
SNS, RAAS, ANP
Major determinants of afterload?
Systolic BP
Size of ventricle
4 drugs that save lives in HF
BAAS: Beta blockers, ARBs, ACE-I, Spironolactone
What is the ejection fraction of chronic HF?
Normal
What is the fluid volume in chronic HF?
Hypervolemia because RAAS has been activated
What 4 things turn on RAAS?
RULT: Reduced renal perfusion, Upright posture, Low Na+ diet, Thermal stress (heat)
Urine Na/K ratio of compensated HF?
> 1.0
Urine Na/K ratio of decompensated HF?
<1.0
Best treatment for CHF?
ACE-I
Side effects of ACE-I?
Hyperkalemia, dry cough
What else could you use in someone with CHF who is volume overloaded?
Diuretics- more effective when pts are supine
