Q

How does the circulatory system work?

A

1) Your heart pumps blood into your lungs where it picks up oxygen
2) The (oxygenated) blood travels back to your heart
3) The heart gives it a second push which sends it all around the body into different organs and tissues
4) The blood travels back to the heart and the system restarts

Q

How does the double circulatory system work?

A

Because humans have a double circulatory system, the blood actually passes through the heart twice per loop. It goes from the heart to the lungs, then back to the heart and then to the rest of the body before going back to the heart

Q

What are red blood cells?

A

1) contain haemoglobin (a red protein that combines with oxygen)
2) they have no nucleus
3) small and flexible so they can fit through narrow vessels
4) their job is to transport oxygen
