Heart 2 Flashcards
What are features of the right atrium?
on the post/lat surfaces are the musculi pectinati and the cristae terminalis.
The fossa ovalis is the closed off foramen ovale
What is the anatomy of the tricuspid (and mitral) valve?
A cuff and cusp attached to the papillary muscles of the ventricle by chordae tendineae
What are features of the right ventricle?
Trabeculae carnae- the muscle
Septomarginal trabecula/ Moderator band- to help impulses reach the ant heart surface and for papillary muscles.
Ant, post and septal papillary muscles
What are features of the left atrium?
The pulmonary veins collect here and the only muscular part of the wall is the left auricle.
What are features of the left ventricle?
Trabeculae carnae (3x thicker than RV) ant and post papillary muscles
From an aerial view what are the locations of the vavles/arteries?
ANT: Pul trunk
POST: aorta with coronary vessels coming off
NOTE anteriorly, tricuspid and aortic are more on the right with the mitral and pul trunk on left
Where is it best to asucultate the 4 valves?
TRICUSPID: left parasternal edge of rib 5
PUL. TRUNK: left parasternally in the 2nd IC space
MITRAL: apex of heart (mid clav IC space 5)
AORTIC: Right parasternally IC space 2
What will happen when the right/left coronary arteries are blocked?
Right: Rhythm distractions due to lack of blood to SA node and AV node
Left: Pump failure due to left ventricle not working well
