Heart 1 Flashcards
Where is the sternal angle roughly?
T4/T5
Where is the heart in relation to the ribs?
Rib 2 to about costal space 5
Layers of heart outisde to inside
Fibrous pericardium; Parietal pericardium ( NB innervated by phrenic nerve); pericardial cavity; visceral pericardium/epicardium; myocardium; endocardium
What are the two pericardial reflections we learnt?
Transverse pericardial sinus (separating arteries and veins)
Oblique pericardial sinus (formed by reflection onto pulmonary veins)
What forms the borders of the heart?
Right: Right Atrium
Inferior: Right Ventricle
Left: Left Ventricle
Post: Mostly Left atrium

What are the important coronary branches and where do they run?
RIGHT: Right coronary in the right atrioventricular groove (ant.); Sinoatrial branch; Right marginal branch; wraps round and AV node branch and posterior interventricular artery n post intervent. groove.
LEFT: Left coronary; left circumflex; left anterior descending in the left anterior interventricular groove. (Also known as the anterior interventricular branch of the left coronary artery)
What are the two anastamoses of the coronary circulation?
Right coronary artery (posteriorly) and the left circumflex
Left anterior descending and the posterior interventricular artery
What did we need to know in terms of the cardiac venous system?
The coronary sinus drains into the RA and is in the posterior atrioventricular groove
