Carbohydrates: Starchy foods such as bread, cereals, pasta etc. Fat: Meat, dairy products and cooking oils. Protein: Meat, fish, eggs, dairy products and nuts. Vitamins: Fruit, vegetables, dairy products. Minerals: Fruit, vegetables, diary products. Water: All drinks, most food.
What are the main nutrients and what is their function?
Carbohydrates:
Primary source of energy for the body.
Fat:
Second energy source for the body and insulation from the cold.
Protein:
Growth a repair of body tissues such as bone, muscle and skin.
Vitamins:
Assists in a range of chemical reactions occurring in the body such as energy release.
Minerals:
Helps maintain a range of internal body functions such as blood formation, bone strength and water balance.
Water:
Maintains hydration of body cells, carries nutrients in the blood and helps maintaining the ideal body temperature.
What are included in the 5 food groups, and what is the order from most eaten to least eaten?
