Healthcare Distortion Flashcards
Doctor Autonomy
Due to personal health, doctors became very useful
They used this power to charge whatever they wanted and became autonomous
Over time, pay methods evolved to lower costs and reduced doctor autonomy
insurance, managed health, government regulation
Private insurance
Developed as way for hospitals to make money even when patients were limited (Great depression)
Was then expanded to employer-based insurance because of WW2
WW2
Healthcare as a right
The soldiers had it so why can’t we have it once the war is over
Employer-based insurance
- to prevent inflation the government froze wages, corporations had to add benefits
a benefit being healthcare
HC benefits were not taxable income, this meant that benefits were free
a problem about this was quality of care was based on how good of a job you had
