what is preventative care
includes health services like screenings, checkups, and pt counseling that are used to prevent disease and other health problems, or to detect illness at an early stage when tx is likely to work best
what is primary prevention
for susceptible population - an intervention that prevents the disease process from ever beginning (primary = prevent)
what is secondary prevention
for asymptomatic population - an intervention that identifies and stops a disease early on in process before Sx arise (secondary = screen)
what is tertiary prevention
for symptomatic population - an intervention that is used for individuals who already have clinical signs of disease (tertiary = treat)
what does USPSTF do
gives evidence based recommendations on clinical preventative services
what does USPSTF A and B recommendation mean
indicates recommendation
what does USPSTF C recommendation mean
depends on pt’s situation
what does USPSTF D recommendation mean
not recommended
what does USPSTF I recommendation mean
not enough evidence to make a recommendation
