What is health screening
A way to find ion people are at a higher risk of a health problem
Who gets screened?
People who are going to benefit the most: Babies Women before and after pregnancy Old men High risk populations
What are new born babies offered?
NIPE newborn and physical examination
When are babies screened?
Within 72 hours of birth & then 6-8 weeks for conditions relating to: Heart Hips Eyes Testes
What does the new born baby blood spot test check for?
Sickle cell diseases
Cystic fibrosis
Congenital hypothyrodism
Inherited metabolic diseases
What are the types of screening during pregnancy?
Infectious diseases
Down’s syndrome
Sickle cell disease and thalassaemia
Physical abnormalities
What is a diabetic eye screening
A screening for diabetics when they turn 12, an annual test for diabetic retinopathy
What is the cervical screening/ Pap smear
For women aged 25- 64
What is breast screening/ mammogram
Offered to women aged 50-70
1 in 8 women are diagnosed with BC in the UK
What are the types of bowel cancer screening?
- Home testing kit offered to people aged 60 - 74
2. Flexible segmoidoscopy
What is AAA
Abdominal aortic aneurysm - common in men aged 65

Digital rectal examination
