Health/Safety Flashcards
Heat stroke risk/prevention (in the context of travel)
If you are going somewhere crowded and hot (like a music festival) you are in danger of passing out. Need to prep with lots of water, lots of sleep, lots of low-solium snacks (but not too much food) and ABSOLUTELY NO LONG PANTS/SLEEVES
Health/Safety rule of thumb for music festivals
- Going to a music festival is like going to Jamboree, use the same preparation
- Many high security events like music festivals require see-through bags. If you have a backpack that’s not see-through, you will have to leave it behind or leave it with someone you know
Healthy/Safety rule of thumb for city walking
Unless the downtown area is very small (like Huntsville), walking around the city is no different from hiking
-General:
-Wear comfortable clothing
-Wear comfortable shoes
-In summer:
-Bring low-sodium snacks and water, preferably in the hydro pack
-Use sunscreen
-Have a plan for keeping yourself cool
Health/Safety while driving
- If you are taking a long drive, make sure that you are wearing comfortable shoes. Basically you will be digging your right heel into the footwell for hours.
Pills to bring
Bring both Pepto and Advil. There’s a fair chance you’re going to overeat and/or get a headache and you do not want that to ruin the trip
Importance of sunscreen
It’s very easy to get scorched out there. Even if it’s cloudy and winter you should still put on sunscreen. Make sure to bring one that has moisturizer (especially for using in the winter time)
