What is the primary legislation for H&S?
H&S at Work Act 1974 which covers occupational health and safety in Great Britain.
What PPE is required on Inspection?
This depends on the type of inspection but usually safety boots, high viz, gloves etc
What are the penalties under current health and safety legislation?
Maximum penalty is 2 years imprisonment or an unlimited fine or both

Each individual has a personal responsibility to both their own and others health and safety - as highlighted by the ‘safe person’ concept
What is the safe person concept?
Where each individual assumes individual behavioural responsibility for their own, their colleagues and others health and safety at work

What is a a risk?
The likelihood of harm (by a hazard)
What is a hazard?
Something with potential to cause harm
How would you undertake a risk assessment?
- Identify the hazards
- Decide who might be harmed
- Evaluate the risks and decide how to proceed
- Record the findings and implement them
- Review assessment and update if necessary
What is asbestos?
A group of minerals which make up a fibre - was used in construction
What types of asbestos are there?
Chyrostile (White)
Amosite (Brown)
