Primary prevention
Focus on health promotion and protection against specific health problems. Prevent or slow disease onset.
Examples maintain a healthy weight, exercise, protecting skin with sunscreen, wearing seatbelt
Secondary prevention
Focus on early identification of health problems and prompt intervention.
For example blood pressure screening, mammogram, colonoscopy
Tertiary prevention
Focus is slowing progression of disease and returning individual to pre-illness phase.
For example :assisting patient who is recovering from a hip replacement to regain strength and ambulation.
Nursing assessment is a collection of comprehensive patient centered data to be used as the basis for identifying patient needs.
What kinds of data should be done/ taken for this step?
Health history including subjective data, past health history, family health history, social history, medication history, review of body systems
Assessment: using nursing knowledge, assessment Techniques for example inspection, auscultation, palpitation, percussion and olfaction
